Celebrating Dignity Action Month with Our Dignity Tree

Neways at Home Dignity tree

At Neways at Home, dignity is at the heart of the care we provide every day—whether through home help, visiting home care, or live-in care services.

As part of Dignity Action Month, we are creating a Dignity Tree to capture what dignity means to our clients and staff.

What is Dignity Action Month?

Dignity Action Month takes place every February and encourages individuals, care providers, and communities to promote and protect the values of dignity, respect, kindness, and compassion in care.

It is a time to highlight the positive work organisations are doing and to create meaningful events, activities, and moments that bring joy and value to people receiving care and support.

The initiative focuses on ensuring that people who use care services are recognised as individuals, with the right to make choices, maintain control over their lives, and experience a sense of purpose in their daily lives.

By dedicating the entire month to this important cause, organisations have many opportunities to turn the principle of dignity into meaningful everyday actions.

Our Dignity Tree

A Dignity Tree is a creative and interactive activity often used during Dignity Action Month to encourage people to share their voices, experiences, and values about dignity in care.

Our tree represents how dignity grows through the actions, values, and voices of everyone involved in care. Clients, staff, and visitors are invited to write what dignity means to them—or share examples of respectful and compassionate care—on colourful leaf-shaped cards.

These leaves are then placed on the tree, symbolising how each person’s contribution helps build a culture of kindness, dignity, and respect.

The activity also encourages reflection on important dignity principles, such as:

  • Being treated with respect
  • Having privacy
  • Maintaining independence
  • Feeling listened to and valued

By collecting these messages and experiences, the Dignity Tree becomes a visual reminder of our ongoing commitment to person-centred care.

As more leaves are added, the tree will continue to grow—representing the shared commitment of our clients, staff, and visitors to uphold dignity in everyday care.

🌿 Dignity is not just a word for us—it is the way we care.

We look forward to sharing a photo of the completed Dignity Tree in March.
